DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Ms. Shakirat Karimu-Kotun grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. She attended Holy Child College, Obalende Lagos, where she obtained her Ordinary Level WAEC. She is in charge of Community Service Unit, Ministry of Justice. She holds a Master of Law, specializes in Criminology and Criminal Justice Matters, and a Mater of Social Work, specializing in Children and Family Services.
Ms. Karimu-Kotun attended Collingham Tutors in London, where she obtained her Advance Level GCE. She proceeded to Holborn Law Tutors and transferred to University of London, Southbank, where she obtained her Law Degree in 1987. Thereafter, she proceeded to King’s College, University of London, where she obtained Master of Laws Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice Matters in 1989. Thereafter, Miss Karimu-Kotun worked in England, with the City Council, in the Legal Department as a Legal Officer. In 1992, she returned to Nigeria, where she worked with her Father, in his Law Firm, Awele Chambers.
She later attended Nigerian Law School, and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1995. Her interest in Criminology and Criminal Justice Matters encouraged her to practice in the field of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. In addition, she studied and explored options and explanations as to why we have so much violence in the world, delving into causes and possible solutions on crime, violence, and alternative sentences. Miss Karimu-Kotun holds a Master of Social Work Degree from the USA, specializing in Family and Child Welfare Services.
