The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday commenced a two-day Junior Officers’ Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity, professionalism and effectiveness of junior officers across the Ministry.
The Y2026 workshop, themed “From Potential to Performance: Empowering Junior Officers for Excellence in Service Delivery,” is being held from Tuesday 11th to Wednesday 12th August, 2026, at Imperial Hall, Alausa, Lagos.
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, emphasised that the effective delivery of justice is a collective responsibility, noting that the Ministry’s work extends beyond its legal officers.
He stressed that officers across various cadres and departments have important roles to play, noting that every officer’s contribution impacts the overall efficiency of the organisation.
Pedro further stated that the workshop was designed to equip participants with relevant knowledge and skills for improved professional performance and service delivery.
The AG urged junior officers to uphold integrity, accountability, professionalism and teamwork, stressing that seemingly routine responsibilities could have significant implications for the efficiency and reputation of the Ministry.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hameed Oyenuga, described junior officers as important part of the future workforce of the Lagos State Public Service, urging them to translate their potential into measurable performance.
He encouraged participants to take ownership of their professional development by seeking knowledge, asking questions, learning from experienced officers and taking advantage of available training opportunities.
Oyenuga also emphasised diligence, attention to detail, confidentiality and integrity, noting that these values are essential to effective service delivery.
He called on participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop in their respective departments.
The Permanent Secretary, Citizens’ Mediation Bureau, Mrs. Aderinsola Olanrewaju, highlighted the value of continuous learning and professional development in building a competent workforce.
She noted that the knowledge and skills acquired through the workshop would be valuable in strengthening the officers’ performance and their contribution to the Ministry’s service delivery.
One of the facilitators, Mr. Femi Sholaja, took participants through key areas including the relationship between competence and productivity, office etiquette, effective communication and emotional intelligence.
His session focused on equipping the officers with practical skills and professional attitudes required for improved performance and effective interaction in the workplace.
The two day workshop will feature a health Talk, career path and growth in the State public service, professional ethics and integrity on the job including breakout sessions for Drivers,Cleaners,Clerks and Admin officers in the ministry.
The workshop forms part of the Ministry’s continued commitment to human capital development and building of a more efficient, professional, innovative and responsive public service.
